| Added on January 16, 2009 | Suppose you were really into this site, but on occasion you let a few months slip by without using it. Well that is what happened to me, and when i returned i found a very odd occurrence. The people on it (in my opinion) want to be the "survivors" of the Ruduzu legend.
Did anyone expect Ruduzu to last? To get large and popular? Well yes and no...
The allure of this site was always the feeling that we were among the first to participate. Ruduzu was something that could go mainstream and we could be first generation of anti-socialites.
There was also the comfort of knowing that it would probably stay small and largely unnoticed. That we can keep venting to a small group of members, having our grievances and profiles as a sort of haggard communion.
As most who have been on the site do, I come on from time to time to see what is going on. There seems to be some difference in what Ruduzu is like now and how it once was. When i talk to people like Conor or Aram Guptill they speak of a time called the golden age of Ruduzu. A time when annoyances were concise and poignant. Usually with a splash of humor or a touch of honesty. I got into the Ruduzu game in the final months of the golden age. I was around for just enough time to realize how great this site once was, and what needs to happen to make it great again.
The “survivors” I have spoken of want to make Ruduzu their own. They want to subvert the original intentions of honesty in voting to make the casual user disinterested to the point when they no longer come back. These people will vote down anything so they can keep Ruduzu to their self. I say: no longer! We must return to the integrity of the golden age. Every annoyance and every musing must be considered with respectful candor. Only through the careful balance truthful honesty and perseverance can we make Ruduzu great again.
I say the so called “survivors” and those have thousands of points should be careful not to sabotage the site so it will have a strong and meaningful existence. For some reason I have seen greater insight into people through Ruduzu than other sites like Facebook or Myspace. There is something happening here. Lets fight to keep it happening. I know I will. | | 4 Comments | Leave a Comment |
